Fred’s No Clue Movie Review

"Anger Management"
Directed by Peter Segal

Well, it was the number one movie in America for two straight weeks.  I was also intrigued by the pairing of Oscar Winner Jack Nicholson and goofball Adam Sandler, so I decided to take some time to see Anger Management.  The setup from the trailer looked funny and I knew that I could use a laugh.

The plot concerns Dave Buznick, played by Sandler, an easygoing guy on the surface, who’s not too crazy about public affection.  While on a flight he gets into an altercation with a flight attendant and is sentenced by the court to attend anger management therapy with Dr. Buddy Rydell, played by Nicholson.  Buddy’s unconventional therapies and Dave’s life don’t seem to intersect as well as they could and hilarity ensues.  In fact, there are many occasions where Dr. Rydell looks like a complete lunatic.

This film is funny.  I did laugh a bunch of times.  There are some great bits, some hilarious interactions between Nicholson and Sandler, and fine actors throughout.  Supporting roles are played by Lynne Thigpen (her final performance), Marisa Tomei, John Turturro and a few very funny cameos.

Although I found it funny, I thought many of the situations were contrived.  It was more a typical Adam Sandler movie.  It definitely wasn’t as crude as say Little Nicky, more along the lines of The Wedding Singer.  If you’re a huge fan of Adam Sandler, you won’t be disappointed.  If you’re a big Nicholson fan, there might not be enough for you.  If you just need a laugh, a little anger therapy might just do the trick.
